The importance of the English language for the development and teaching of science

Abstract

In a globalized world with an imminent need of a fast, massive and efficient communication, English language is placed as a cornerstone for obtaining and divulgate knowledge. English is the main language for periodic publications, books, and academic conferences and it is the most used second language as well as the frank language of scientific communication. At the present contribution I analyze the important relation that English language has with the development, history, divulgation and teaching of sciences, emphasizing natural sciences such as biology and ecology; also, the relevance this idiom has in the work of scientists within these areas and finally, the opportunities and challenges that English language implies in teaching natural sciences at school.
