The importance of sleep in childhood and adolescence

Sleep represents one third of a person’s life time. However, most of the time we downplay it. Nowadays, it is known that sleep is fundamental for the optimal development of the central nervous system and for the execution of cognitive tasks such as attention, learning and memory. Currently, hours of sleep have drastically reduced in the population, affecting children and adolescents significantly. We briefly explain the importance of adequate sleep and its benefits on the learning of children and adolescents. Also indicate the implications on your health and risk factors associated with the development of other diseases when usually does not meet the minimum sleep period.
